Tall Ship Antigua
Antigua has a long history in European waters. The ship was built as a fishing boat in 1957 by the Richard Dunston Shipyard in Thorne (Yorkshire, Great Britain). After the ship was decommissioned in the ‘90s, it was converted with sense of nautical tradition to a characteristic three-master with attention to details.
Sailing characteristics
Antigua was configured as a barkentine, which means that the foremast is square-rigged while the main and the mizzen masts are rigged fore-and-aft. This configuration allows the ship to be operated with both efficiency and speed.
The restoration of the Antigua resulted in an elegant ship with a powerful presence and excellent sailing characteristics. During winter 2015/2016, the ship underwent another spectacular renovation; it was cut in half and an 8-meter section was welded in between. After the extension of the vessel, the sailing performance of the Antigua became even better!
Arctic expedition ship
Tall Ship Antigua was acquired 2005 by her current owner, Jan Bruinsma of shipping company Tallship Company in Franeker (The Netherlands). A new destination was given to Tall Ship Antigua: the challenging sailing area of the Arctic Ocean. For that reason the ship was equipped as an expedition ship for luxury nature expeditions around Spitsbergen and the Lofoten. The ship has three Zodiacs, which can be quickly launched with two different davits. The front- and aft deck and the spacious middle deck offer ample place for beautiful watching. Furthermore the ship has all installation facilities on board to explore the Arctic waters.
Comfort and Luxury
The Antigua stands out due to her stylish interior. The organically decorated salon is paneled with mahogany, which creates a warm and nautical atmosphere. There is a small but lovely bar, with strong cozy vibes. Since 2021 the ship has a classy deck saloon with comfortable seats. Inside the deck saloon one can admire the exceptional panoramas of the arctic! The atmospheric ship has 16 cabins with private bathrooms, accommodating a total of 32 passengers. 8 cabins are extra spacious and luxurious and have two single beds on the same level. For daytrips the Antigua is allowed to carry up to 95 guests on board.
